The $30M Company Running on $10M Habits
Revenue scales faster than operating discipline. Most founder-led firms we meet between $20M and $100M, whether law firms, technology services providers or hospitality operators, have tripled their top line while keeping the management system that got them to $10M. The symptoms are familiar: the founder still approves most pricing exceptions, new business depends on a handful of relationships, and finance closes the books but cannot explain margin by client, practice or property.
None of this was a mistake at $10M. The founder's judgment was the operating system. At $30M, that same judgment becomes the constraint. Decisions queue behind one person, and the firm has more opportunity than it can convert.
Three shifts separate firms that break through from those that plateau:
Codify how the firm wins work. Define target clients, pricing guardrails and a repeatable business development process so growth no longer rests on the founder's network. The CEO moves from the Chief Salesperson to Chief Evangelist/Chief Closer.
Redesign the work before adding headcount. Standardize how core work gets delivered, then apply automation and AI to the repeatable parts: intake, scheduling, billing and reporting.
Build the capital narrative early. Investors, lenders and boards price predictability. A firm that can explain its economics by client, service line or asset commands a better valuation conversation.
The habits that built the business will not scale it. 4See Advisory works with founders at exactly this inflection point. If this sounds familiar, let's talk.
